@cantroos Good stuff. I think everyone got mad at you because you probably deeply insulted them (all that jazz about FS 2004) and they couldn't handle it. I laughed a little when I read your comment. The fact that you even know what an immelmann is makes it all the more obvious that it was a satirical statement.

@Pupeli123 Also, if the plane has any composite material in the wings or fuselage it can melt the epoxies and split the composite layers--as well as create holes in the composite structure. So if large parts of the plane are composite it does require the plane to turn around and land. However, in this case, I doubt there are much composites in a 747.

@cantroos An Immelman turn, with this size of a plane? In the middle of take off? To DODGE a LIGHTNING? In what universe do you live in? I want there, too :D

No it won't short circuit the system. The fuselage is aluminium and acts as a Faraday's cage and protects the electronics as well as the people inside the plane. The plane must be checked before next flight, because the lightning CAN cause some physical damage to the fuselage, e.g. burn marks and small melted 'drops' to the fuselage surface. Trust me, I have close contacts to pilots and aircraft mechanics =)
